About Words

Words API provides dictionary and lexical data through a RESTful JSON interface, accessed via RapidAPI with an API key passed as a header. A request for a given word returns definitions grouped by meaning, along with part of speech, syllable count and breakdown, and pronunciation.

Beyond full word lookups, the API supports requesting specific detail types by appending them to the endpoint URL, including synonyms, antonyms, example sentences, and semantic relationships such as hypernyms (typeOf), hyponyms (hasTypes), holonyms (partOf), meronyms (hasParts), and category, region, and usage associations. Additional endpoints cover rhymes, word frequency, and random word retrieval.
