The Synonyms API, provided by STANDS4 as part of its Web Services suite, gives programmatic access to synonym, thesaurus, and antonym data for a given word. Requests are made via a URL with parameters for a user ID, developer token, and target word, and the service returns results in XML or JSON format. Each result includes the queried term, a definition, its part of speech, and comma-delimited lists of synonyms and antonyms.

It is intended for developers who want to integrate word-reference data, such as synonym or antonym lookups, into applications. The service is free to use for up to 100 queries per day, with a premium commercial license available by contacting the provider.
