Wordnik is a developer API providing access to English-language word data, including definitions aggregated from five dictionaries (American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Century Dictionary, Wiktionary, GNU International Dictionary of English, and WordNet) covering more than 800,000 words.
The API also returns synonyms, antonyms, and other word relations, real example sentences with source links for more than 10,000,000 words, and audio pronunciations. It additionally offers a word-of-the-day endpoint and a random-word endpoint.
Access requires a Wordnik account and an API key obtained after logging in. Wordnik operates as a non-profit with a stated mission to document and share the English language.
It aggregates definitions from five dictionaries: the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, the Century Dictionary, Wiktionary, the GNU International Dictionary of English, and Wordnet.
You need to log in to a Wordnik account to request an API key, or sign up for an account if you don't have one.
You can retrieve synonyms, antonyms, other word relations, audio pronunciations, example sentences, a word of the day, and random words.
It's for developers building applications that need dictionary and word-reference data, and using it supports Wordnik's non-profit mission to document every word of English.
