Tenrai is a REST API that provides structured, normalized data on anime and manga sourced from MyAnimeList, removing the need to scrape pages directly. It exposes endpoints for anime, manga, characters, people, producers, seasons, top rankings, genres, magazines, random entries, recommendations, reviews, schedules, news, and articles, with support for filtering, pagination, search, sorting, and SFW content controls. The catalog includes over 100,000 entries, with more than 200,000 characters, 100,000 episodes, 50,000 staff and creators, and 3,000 studios and companies, spanning over 100 years of history.

The API is free and authless. Its v1 schema is compatible with Jikan, covering 95% of Jikan's endpoints, allowing it to be used as a primary source, a fallback, or alongside Jikan. It is funded through Patreon and maintains a public status page reporting 99.9% uptime over a 90-day period.

It is intended for developers building applications that require anime and manga data, ranging from side projects to high-throughput production systems. A Discord community is available for support, feature suggestions, and collaboration with other developers using the API.
