Mockaroo is a random data generator and API mocking tool that produces data in JSON, CSV, SQL, Excel, and other formats. It provides two programmatic access methods: a Generate API for producing data from saved schemas or field definitions supplied in a request, and Mock APIs that let users configure custom URLs, request parameter handling, and simulated error responses to stand in for a backend that has not yet been built.

The Generate API supports output formats including JSON, CSV, tab-separated text, custom-delimited text, SQL insert statements, and XML, with parameters controlling record count, null handling, formatting, and file structure. It also supports uploading and deleting named datasets via CSV or plain text. Access to both APIs requires an API key, passed as a query parameter or request header.

Usage is tiered by plan: free accounts are limited to 200 requests per day and 5,000 records per download, Silver plans allow up to 1,000,000 records per day, and Gold plans allow up to 10,000,000 records per day, with paid plans required to generate data in the background rather than returning it directly in the response. The product is aimed at developers who need to generate mock or test data, or simulate API endpoints during front-end development before a backend exists.
