About Mailsac

Mailsac provides an API for handling disposable and testable email addresses, covering functions such as checking inbox messages, counting messages, validating email addresses, setting up forwarding, receiving messages via web sockets, and sending outbound mail. API keys authenticate requests and can be passed as a header, query string parameter, or JSON body field. All subscription tiers, including free accounts, can generate at least one API key.

By default, messages sent to Mailsac addresses are public and accessible to anyone unless a custom domain or private forwarding address is set up, which restricts visibility to the owner. Public inboxes do not require reservation before checking or counting mail, but are subject to throttling, and anyone can view or delete messages on them.

The API includes endpoints for listing, counting, and deleting inbox messages, with messages returned as parsed objects containing metadata such as sender, recipients, subject, headers, attachments, and links. Client libraries are available for Node.js and browser use, along with a Swagger UI for testing requests interactively. The service is aimed at developers, such as those needing disposable inboxes for QA testing or automated email verification workflows.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free tier?

Yes, free accounts can create one API key, the same as the Indie tier.

How do I authenticate API requests?

Requests use an API key passed as the Mailsac-Key HTTP header, a _mailsacKey query string parameter, or a _mailsacKey field in the JSON body.

What client libraries are available?

Mailsac provides an official @mailsac/api Node.js and browser library, with code samples also shown for Shell, Go, Java, C#, PHP, Python, and Ruby.

Do I need to reserve an email address before checking its mail?

No, messages can be counted or listed for any address, whether on a custom domain, a public domain, or mailsac.com, without reserving it first.

Who can access messages in a public inbox?

By default all emails sent to Mailsac are accepted and public, so anyone can view or delete messages in a non-owned public inbox; a custom domain or private forwarding address restricts visibility to the owner.
