IPWhois provides an IP geolocation API that returns location, connection, timezone, currency, and security data for a given IP address in JSON, XML, or CSV format. Data returned includes country, region, city, coordinates, ISP and ASN details, timezone information, local currency, and security flags such as proxy, VPN, Tor, and hosting detection. The API is accessed via HTTP requests (e.g., a curl call to ipwho.is) and supports multi-language responses in English, Russian, German, Japanese, Chinese, French, Spanish, and Portuguese.

The service is aimed at developers building applications that need location-based functionality, such as content personalization, language redirection, ad targeting, form auto-fill, shipping cost calculation, currency display, or fraud detection by comparing IP location against billing address. Data is sourced from RIPE, APNIC, ARIN, AFRINIC, and other regional registries, with updates close to real time, and requests are served over HTTPS with 256-bit SSL encryption.

A free plan offers up to 1,000 requests per day with no API key or registration required. A paid Pro plan starts at $12.99 and covers 500K+ requests per month, adding higher limits, bulk IP lookup, usage statistics, native localization, enhanced accuracy, threat intelligence, and support, backed by a 99.99% uptime SLA. Commercial use is permitted on all plans, including the free tier.
