Insomnia is an API development platform made by Kong for designing, testing, debugging, and mocking APIs. It supports REST, GraphQL, gRPC, WebSocket, and Socket.io/SSE protocols, along with MCP server testing through a native MCP client. Users can design APIs from OpenAPI specs, generate mock responses, run automated collection tests with pre- and post-request scripting, and inspect MCP servers' tools, resources, and prompts including authentication event logs.

The platform offers local, Git-based, or cloud storage for collections and API designs, with optional end-to-end encryption for cloud-synced work and organization-wide policies to mandate storage location.
