Unified German city open data: weather, air quality, EV chargers, transit, demographics.
InfraNode is a free, public REST API that aggregates open data from 84 major German cities (with populations over 100,000) into a single unified interface. It covers 67 data categories across 104 endpoints, including weather, air quality, public transit real-time departures, traffic and roadworks, EV charging station occupancy, energy prices and grid load, demographics, unemployment, hospital and ICU bed data, points of interest, and election results. Of the 84 cities, 28 are maintained as core cities with full source coverage, while the remaining cities are served through automated, AGS- and geo-based sources.
Every response follows the same JSON envelope structure, with a data field containing the payload and a meta field containing city, timestamp, source_status, correlation_id, and cache_status. Each data record includes an attribution field stating license and origin. The source_status field distinguishes between ok, no_data, and disabled states, returning a clean 200 response rather than an error when a source has no data available. Responses include ETag and Cache-Control headers to support conditional requests and edge caching.
The API requires no API key or registration and is rate-limited per IP to prevent abuse. It is intended for use by developers building applications that need German city data, as well as AI agents, via an accompanying MCP server that exposes the endpoints as tools, and a llms.txt file at the root for machine consumption. A ready-made GPT is also available in the GPT Store for querying live city data through ChatGPT. The service runs on servers in Germany and Finland for failover, without advertising, tracking, or cookies, and its source code is publicly available on GitHub under the Apache-2.0 license.
No, the API is open and keyless with all endpoints publicly readable and no login required. Calls are simply rate-limited per IP.
