About IG

IG Labs provides an API for accessing IG's trading platform, enabling developers to build applications that interact with live and demo trading accounts. Access requires an IG account, with API keys generated through the account settings under My Account > Settings > API Keys; the service currently limits accounts to one API key each. The API works over HTTP and supports any programming language capable of making HTTP requests, with date and time values formatted in ISO 8601 and UTC.

Demo accounts are available for testing applications in a non-live environment, created via an account switcher on the trading platform. Sample applications, including an API companion and a streaming companion, are provided to help developers explore the API's capabilities before building against it.

The service covers CFD and spread betting trading products, with Key Information Documents available describing the nature, risks, and costs of these instruments. Some restrictions apply: direct market access is not currently available, shares trading is offered but without share price information, and API keys are subject to usage quotas. Updates and API change announcements are posted via Twitter under the handles @IGLabs #webapi and #release.
