Finnhub provides a REST and WebSocket API for financial market data, covering real-time trades for US stocks, forex, and crypto, along with symbol lookup by ticker, name, ISIN, or CUSIP. Additional data feeds include real-time news and press releases for US and Canadian companies, with press releases limited to Enterprise-tier access. The API uses token-based authentication via a URL parameter or header, returns JSON, and enforces rate limits with a 429 response when exceeded and a global cap of 30 calls per second.

The service publishes open datasets, including SEC financials as reported, SEC filings metadata, S&P 500 futures tick data, and open-source client libraries for Python, Go, JavaScript, Ruby, Kotlin, and PHP. It also offers an MCP server for connecting to ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini Enterprise, and partners with Finsheet for an Excel and Google Sheets plugin that pulls fundamentals and estimates data.

The API is aimed at developers, researchers, and investors building applications or conducting analysis that requires stock, forex, and crypto market data, company news, and financial filings.
