The API provides real-time and historical currency exchange rate data, covering more than 150 currencies. It returns quotes including bid, ask, high, low, variation, and percentage change values, with timestamps for each rate. Endpoints support retrieving the latest quote for selected currency pairs, daily closing values over a specified number of days or date range, and sequential quotes at one-minute intervals for a single currency over a given period.

In addition to standard currency pair conversions, the API offers specialized rates such as USD-BRL and EUR-BRL tourism rates (BRLT) and PTAX rates based on Brazilian Central Bank data, which represent the average of buy and sell exchange rates recorded throughout the trading day. Responses are available in JSON or XML format.

Unauthenticated requests are cached for one minute and limited to 100 results per request, while requests made with an API key bypass the cache for real-time data and allow up to 1,500 results per request. Registering on the AwesomeAPI site provides up to 100,000 free requests. The service is aimed at developers who need Brazilian Real-denominated currency exchange data, including central bank reference rates, for financial applications.
