The FIPE API is a REST service providing JSON access to Brazilian vehicle pricing data based on the Tabela FIPE, which reflects average market prices for cars, motorcycles, and trucks in Brazil. It uses its own database populated from FIPE data rather than querying the FIPE web service directly for each request, avoiding rate-limiting issues associated with that source. Prices vary by region, condition, color, and other factors, so the data serves as a reference point for negotiations or valuations rather than fixed pricing.

The API is organized hierarchically: users first query vehicle brands for a given vehicle type (cars, motorcycles, or trucks), then models for a chosen brand, then available years for a chosen model, and finally pricing details (value, brand, model, model year, fuel type, FIPE code, and reference month) for a specific model year. A version 2 of the API has been released with an expanded structure and additional functionality, while version 1 remains available.

Unauthenticated requests are limited to 500 per day; creating a free access token raises this limit to 1,000 requests per day. A paid support plan, available through a separate site (fipe.online), offers unlimited requests and access to one year of price history. The vehicle data is owned by Fundação Instituto de Pesquisas Econômicas (FIPE). This service is aimed at developers building applications that need Brazilian vehicle pricing data, such as valuation tools or automotive marketplaces.
