About Billplz

Billplz is a REST API for creating bills and collecting payments programmatically, with all responses returned in JSON and support for both application/x-www-form-urlencoded and application/json request bodies. Payments are organized into Collections, which group individual Bills; each Bill is a payment request tracking amount, payer details, and payment status, and includes a unique Bill URL that customers are redirected to for completing payment. The API only accepts Malaysian Ringgit (MYR), does not support currency conversion, and monetary values are passed in cents. A sandbox environment mirrors production for testing prior to going live.

Integration relies on a callback_url, which is compulsory and receives a server-side POST after payment succeeds or fails, and an optional redirect_url for returning customers to the merchant's site after payment. Authentication uses HTTP Basic Auth with an API Secret Key as the username. The API is versioned (e.g. v3, v4, v5), with older versions maintained indefinitely and advance notice given before any deprecation. GET endpoints are subject to rate limiting, cumulative across endpoints per IP address or account, at either 100 or 10 requests per 5-minute window depending on usage patterns, with limit status returned in response headers.

The product is aimed at developers integrating payment collection into applications or e-commerce systems operating in Malaysia. Billplz also offers downloadable modules for self-hosted systems to integrate with existing e-commerce platforms, and a direct payment gateway feature that lets a Bill route customers straight to a preconfigured payment option, falling back to the standard selection page if that option is invalid or unavailable.
