About Bargo Congress Trades

Bargo Congress Trades is a REST API and MCP server that provides disclosed stock trades made by U.S. House and Senate members, sourced from official STOCK Act filings — House Clerk Financial Disclosure reports and Senate eFD Periodic Transaction Reports. The dataset covers 42,041 disclosed trades across 415 members and 4,142 tickers, with endpoints for a global trade feed, per-ticker trades, member rankings and profiles, aggregate stats, and health/freshness checks. Each trade record includes the member, chamber, state, ticker, transaction type, disclosed amount range, transaction and disclosure dates, and a computed performance figure comparing the estimated trade price to the latest price.

Read access requires no API key but is rate-limited to 30 requests and 100 rows per day per IP; a free API key raises this to 100 requests and 1,000 rows per day and unlocks the MCP server, which exposes get_congress_trades, get_congress_member, and get_congress_stats tools for use in AI agents. The free tier is limited to the last three months of trades; the full historical dataset (2005–present) is registered separately on Zenodo with restricted access. A JavaScript embed widget is also available for adding a live, themeable trades table to a website with a single script tag.

The service is intended for developers and site owners building financial or market-intelligence tools, embedding congressional trade data, or connecting AI agents to this data via MCP. Filings carry a legal disclosure lag of up to about 45 days, so the data reflects recent-weeks activity rather than real-time trades, and performance figures are described as informational only, not investment advice. Use requires visible attribution linking back to Bargo, and bulk redistribution of the raw dataset is not permitted.
