The API provides real-time, historical, and forecast weather data for locations worldwide, returned in JSON format. Coverage includes current conditions, multi-year historical records, hour-by-hour forecasts, marine weather and marine history, and location autocomplete, with data available for millions of cities and towns via a bulk API endpoint.

Response data includes temperature, wind speed and direction, precipitation, pressure, humidity, cloud cover, UV index, and visibility, along with astronomical details such as sunrise, sunset, moon phase, and moon illumination. Marine endpoints also return tide times and heights, swell height, swell direction, and water temperature.

It is aimed at developers integrating weather data into applications. A free plan is available to start, with the option to upgrade later. The API is offered through APILayer, a platform providing access to multiple APIs (including weather, currency, and other data services) under a single account, API key, dashboard, and bill.
