About AQICN

AQICN is the API platform of the World Air Quality Index Project, providing real-time and forecast air quality data. It offers a JSON API covering more than 11,000 station-level and 1,000 city-level data points, including individual AQI readings for pollutants such as PM2.5, PM10, NO2, CO, SO2, and Ozone, along with station names, coordinates, originating EPA information, current weather conditions, and air quality forecasts for 3 to 8 days. Queries can be made by city name, geo-location (latitude/longitude or IP address), or map bounding box, and stations can be searched by name.

In addition to the JSON API, the platform provides a Map Tile API for displaying real-time air quality on Google, Bing, or OpenStreetMap maps, a Widget API for embedding real-time air quality indicators on web pages, and a non-programmatic widget generator for WordPress and Blogger integration accessible from individual city pages.

Access requires a token obtained from the data platform token page. All APIs are free to use, subject to a default quota of 1,000 requests per second, and require attribution to the World Air Quality Index Project and the originating EPA. The data cannot be sold, included in paid packages, used in paid applications or services, or redistributed as cached or archived data; for-profit use requires explicit agreement with the project team, and non-profit use requires prior email notification.
