Community driven API for Colombia Public Data.
API-Colombia is an open-source public API providing structured data about Colombia, covering general country information (capital, area, population, languages), departments, regions, tourist attractions, and urban centers such as municipal seats and populated centers with their geographic locations and codes. Additional endpoints cover topics including natural areas, invasive species, native communities, airports, radio stations, holidays, typical dishes, constitutional articles, postal codes, and higher education institutions.
The API requires no authentication and is documented via Swagger and VitePress, with an MCP interface also available. To maintain stability under high demand, some endpoints are rate-limited to 60 requests per minute per IP, and the provider recommends caching data client-side since the underlying information changes infrequently.
The project was started in 2022 by Colombian developer Miguel Teheran with the goal of making public data about Colombia freely and easily accessible to developers, students, and technology enthusiasts. It is maintained through open-source contributions and sponsor support, and reports over 2 million monthly requests, serving educational projects, commercial applications, and personal development work that requires verified information about Colombia.
