TransportAPI is a developer portal providing access to multimodal UK public transport data through a set of managed API services. It covers journey planning across multiple engines, bus passenger information (departure boards, live bus locations on a map, journey details, route geometry, scheduled and realtime data), bus fleet performance analytics (lateness, punctuality, reliability, leg traversal times, with filters by time period and geography), rail passenger information (departure boards, journey details, scheduled and realtime data), historical rail performance data (lateness, schedule changes, cancellations, punctuality), and a places service for mapping transport access points such as bus stops, rail/tube/metro/tram stations, and points of interest with geospatial filtering.

Access to the APIs is organized through apps, each with its own app_id and app_key credentials used as request parameters, along with usage stats and admin settings. A free plan offers 30 API hits per day, and paid plans with higher allowances are available on a trial basis.

The service is aimed at developers building applications, websites, or dashboards that need UK transport data, including journey planning widgets, bus and rail passenger information screens, analytics dashboards for transport operators, and map-based displays of transport access points, as well as those carrying out data mining involving UK public transport datasets.
