The Auckland Transport Developer Portal provides API access to the region's transport data, covering roads, footpaths, cycling, parking, and public transport. Two APIs are offered: a Realtime Compat API for live bus, train, and ferry trip, position, and alert data, and a GTFS API for Auckland bus, train, and ferry routes, trips, and stops. Registration is free and required to obtain a subscription key, which is passed either as an HTTP header (Ocp-Apim-Subscription-Key) or as a query parameter. Usage is rate-limited to 600 calls per minute and 35,000 calls per week.

The portal is aimed at developers building tools or applications that use Auckland transport data, such as journey planning, live departure information, or disruption notifications. Auckland Transport's own AT Mobile app is cited as an example use case, offering route planning, live departure information, journey notifications, AT HOP balance management, and disruption alerts across bus, train, ferry, bike, and foot travel.
