The Product Hunt API provides programmatic access to Product Hunt data through a GraphQL interface, reachable at https://api.producthunt.com/v2/api/graphql. It supports OAuth2 authentication, including a PKCE flow for public clients (native, desktop, mobile, and single-page applications) that cannot securely store a client secret, as well as standard client-secret authentication for confidential server-side clients. A developer_token option is also available in the API dashboard for simpler scripting use cases without the full OAuth2 flow.
Access is organized into three scopes: public (read public information), private (read data on behalf of an authenticated user, such as goals or comments), and write (take actions on behalf of a user, such as marking goals complete). Applications default to public, read-only access, and write access is granted by Product Hunt on a case-by-case basis for applications that need it.
The API is intended for developers building integrations with Product Hunt data and functionality, such as checking whether a user follows a topic or has commented on a post. Use is restricted to non-commercial purposes by default, with commercial use requiring direct contact with Product Hunt. Rate limits apply, and applications requiring faster, unrestricted access are directed to contact Product Hunt.
The API is accessible with an access token, but it must not be used for commercial purposes without contacting Product Hunt first.
It is a GraphQL API reachable at https://api.producthunt.com/v2/api/graphql, using standard GraphQL queries and mutations.
You can use OAuth2 user authentication (with optional PKCE for public clients) to get a Bearer access token, or use a non-expiring developer_token from the API dashboard for simple scripts.
Yes, the API may be rate-limited for applications not following fair use, and faster access without rate limits can be requested by contacting Product Hunt.
It is for developers building applications that read Product Hunt data or, with private/write scopes, act on behalf of authenticated users, such as checking followed topics or marking goals complete.
