Download curated playlists of streaming tracks (YouTube, SoundCloud, etc...).
Openwhyd is a free and open-source music curation service that lets users build playlists from tracks sourced across platforms such as YouTube, SoundCloud, Vimeo, Deezer, and Bandcamp, and discover music posted by other users. It exposes two APIs: a Data Export API for downloading public user info, posts, playlists, and "hot tracks" in JSON or plain-URL formats without authentication, and a User API for reading and updating a user's own tracks and lists after authenticating with email and password.
The Data Export API supports pagination and JSONP callbacks, and returns track identifiers mapped to their source platform (e.g., YouTube, SoundCloud, Vimeo prefixes). The User API covers session login/logout, password reset, and account registration, and a Node.js client library (openwhyd-api-client) is available on npm to handle its session-based authentication flow.
This is aimed at developers who want programmatic access to Openwhyd's music curation data, whether to pull public playlist/track data into other applications or to build third-party tools that read and manage a user's own Openwhyd account.
Yes, the Data Export API is free and requires no authentication, though users are asked to add delays between requests to avoid overloading the server.
No, it can be used by anyone without authentication to download public user info, posts, playlists, and hot tracks.
Openwhyd aggregates tracks from platforms including YouTube, SoundCloud, Vimeo, and Deezer, among others.
A session is initiated by providing the user's email and password, which returns a cookie required for subsequent API requests; a Node.js client (openwhyd-api-client) is available to handle this flow.
Track lists can be downloaded as JSON or as a plain list of URLs.
