The OMDb API is a RESTful web service that provides movie, series, and episode information, including data such as title, year, plot, and IMDb ID. Content and images are contributed and maintained by users of the site. Data can be requested by IMDb ID or by title, or searched by title with support for pagination, and results can be filtered by type (movie, series, or episode) and returned in JSON or XML format.

A separate Poster API is available to patrons, providing access to over 280,000 posters at resolutions up to 2000x3000, updated daily. An API key is required to send data requests to the service.
