About Open Food Facts

Open Food Facts is a collaborative, open database of food product information, covering barcoded products with data such as ingredients, nutrition facts, and images contributed by users and processed with the help of an AI system called Robotoff. The database is released under the Open Database License, with individual content under the Database Contents License and product images under Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike.

The data is accessible through several formats aimed at developers and researchers: nightly MongoDB dumps, daily delta exports covering the previous 14 days, a JSONL export, a simplified Parquet export hosted on Hugging Face, CSV exports (also covering related cosmetics, pet food, and other product databases under sister projects Open Beauty Facts, Open Pet Food Facts, and Open Products Facts), and an unmaintained RDF export. Product and OCR images can be downloaded directly or via the AWS Open Data Program.

A live JSON API provides per-product data and is used by the official Open Food Facts mobile app; an unsupported XML API is also available. The API is intended for production use tied to real user scans rather than for bulk scraping, since full data exports are provided separately for that purpose. Wrappers and SDKs exist for various programming languages to simplify data consumption and let users contribute new product data.
