Retrieve vendor details and other information regarding a given MAC address or an OUI.
The API accepts a MAC address, OUI, or IAB identifier and returns vendor registration details, including the company name, street address, and country code, along with the dates the associated MAC block was created and last updated. It reports whether the address is valid, registered, and privately assigned, and provides block details such as left/right borders, total address count, and assignment type. It also detects whether a MAC address is assigned to a virtual machine and, if so, names the VM vendor, and can indicate possible applications, transmission type (multicast/unicast), administration type (universal/local), and notes sourced from the Wireshark database.
Vendor data is sourced daily from the IEEE Standards Association, supplemented with the provider's own historical data collected since 1997. A full database download is offered in JSON, XML, CSV, and Cisco vendorMacs.xml formats, in addition to the API. Client libraries and integrations with open source threat intelligence platforms are provided to simplify implementation.
The service is intended for tasks such as identifying devices behind a given MAC address, configuring network routing whitelists and blacklists, checking for disallowed MAC addresses on a network, and detecting virtual machine traffic for monitoring purposes. It offers 100 free requests daily with no credit card required.
