About LAPIS

LAPIS is a data platform providing access to SARS-CoV-2 sequencing data through CoV-Spectrum. As of 23 December 2025, the service shows only open sequencing data, since GISAID data can no longer be displayed on the platform. The underlying sequence data is updated on a recurring basis, with the most recent update noted as the previous Sunday.

The service is intended for researchers and developers working with SARS-CoV-2 genomic surveillance data who need access to openly licensed sequence datasets. A joint response addressing a related statement from GISAID was published on 2 March 2026.
