About Kite Connect

Kite Connect is a set of REST-like HTTP APIs from Zerodha Technology for building stock market investment and trading platforms. It supports executing orders in real time across equities, commodities, and mutual funds, managing user portfolios, streaming live market data over WebSockets, retrieving historical candle data, and handling GTT orders, alerts, and postbacks/webhooks. Inputs are form-encoded parameters and responses are returned as JSON, with standard HTTP status codes indicating success or error states.

Access requires an active Zerodha trading account with 2FA TOTP enabled, along with a Kite Connect developer account used to create an app and obtain an api_key and api_secret pair. A redirect URL must be registered for the login flow, and API endpoints are not cross-site request enabled, so they cannot be called directly from browsers. For mobile and desktop applications, a remote backend must perform the authentication handshake, since the api_secret should not be embedded in the app itself.

The documentation includes official SDKs/libraries in multiple languages, along with examples covering margin calculation, mutual funds, and offsite order publishing via a Publisher JS plugin. It is intended for developers building trading or investment applications on top of Zerodha's brokerage infrastructure.
