About Guild Wars 2

The Guild Wars 2 API is an interface that allows third-party applications to access game data directly from the Guild Wars 2 servers, currently at version 2. Most endpoints return general game data without requiring authentication, such as achievements, items, map information, guild data, trading post information, and World vs. World data. A separate set of endpoints returns account-specific or guild-specific data, including characters, bank contents, inventory, unlocked cosmetics and collectibles, crafting recipes, wallet contents, and trading post transactions, and these require authentication via an API key supplied either as a Bearer token in an Authorization header or as an access_token query parameter.

The API is intended for developers building third-party tools and applications around Guild Wars 2, such as companion apps, trading post trackers, or character/build management tools. It supports schema versioning through a query parameter to introduce data changes without breaking existing applications, and offers a subtoken system that lets an API key holder create limited-permission, time-expiring tokens for use in place of a full API key.

Key features

  • Access game data endpoints for achievements, items, guilds, maps, and trading post
  • Retrieve authenticated account-specific data via an API key
  • Supports API key authentication through header or query parameter
  • Create subtokens with limited expiry and restricted permissions/endpoints
  • Multiple schema versions selectable via a query parameter for backward compatibility
  • Query World vs. World, PvP, and Wizard's Vault data

Frequently asked questions

Is authentication required to use the Guild Wars 2 API?

Most endpoints return general game data and don't require authentication, but endpoints returning account or guild-specific data require an API key.

How do I authenticate requests?

You can pass the API key via an Authorization Bearer header or an access_token query parameter, though browsers should use the query parameter due to CORS restrictions.

What kind of data can I retrieve?

The API provides data on achievements, items, guilds, maps, trading post, World vs. World, PvP, and account-specific information like inventory, bank, and wallet.

Who is this API for?

It's intended for third-party developers building applications that access Guild Wars 2 game and account data.

Can I limit what a shared API key can access?

Yes, the createsubtoken endpoint lets you generate a subtoken with an expiry date and a restricted subset of permissions and endpoints.
