About Etsy

Etsy Open API v3 is a REST API that provides access to inventory, sales orders, and shop management functions on the Etsy platform. It supports authenticated operations through OAuth and offers a range of endpoints for building tools and automations that integrate with Etsy shops and customer interactions. An OpenAPI Dev MCP server is also available, connecting AI coding assistants such as Claude, Cursor, and VS Code directly to the API for endpoint details, schemas, and authentication requirements.

Access is organized into three tiers depending on use case. Seller Apps are for individual sellers building tools scoped to their own shop, with near-instant automated approval. Personal Apps are for developers building tools that other buyers or sellers may use at a limited scale, subject to a deeper review process. Commercial Access, available only after an approved Personal App, is for developers building applications intended for broader use by other sellers, and requires manual review against Etsy's API Terms of Use, including caching, branding, and trademark requirements.

Building an app requires registering in the Etsy Developer Portal to obtain an API keystring and shared secret. Applications with Commercial Access that use the transaction_r permission scope must separately request access to the buyer_email field, and all applications must retrieve or post data through the API rather than through screen-scraping.
