DynaPictures provides a REST API for generating images programmatically from predefined templates. Users first design an image template through the DynaPictures interface, then send a POST request to the API with custom parameters to produce a rendered image. The API accepts a JSON request body specifying overrides for individual layers in the template, including text content, colors, borders, border radius, opacity, and images, and returns a generated image along with a thumbnail and retina thumbnail URL. Output formats include png, jpeg, webp, and avif.

The API supports image layers with configurable positioning options such as cropping, face-aware cropping, cover scaling, and manual alignment, as well as CSS filter-based effects like grayscale, blur, drop shadow, and sepia. It also includes an AI Image layer type that generates images from a text prompt, with support for image-to-image editing via a source image and named reference images. Additional documented capabilities include batch generation, multipage PDF generation, countdown timers, webhooks, a template API, a workspace API, and a media library API for managing assets.

Access to the API requires an API key, provided via a Bearer token in the Authorization header, obtainable from the account page or a specific template's API console after signing up for a developer key. The product is aimed at developers who need to generate customized images or PDFs at scale, such as through embedding a widget, no-code tool integrations, or automated campaign and analytics-tracked image generation.
