DiceBear is an open source avatar library and API that generates deterministic profile pictures from a seed string such as a username, email, or ID. The same seed always produces the same avatar across platforms. It offers 52 avatar styles ranging from hand-drawn characters to abstract patterns and pixel art, and is accessible via an HTTP API, a JS library, and libraries for PHP, Python, Rust, Go, and Dart, as well as a CLI.

It is aimed at developers building user profiles, chat applications, games, forums, and team tools who need default or placeholder avatars without requiring image uploads. A no-code avatar editor is also available for creating and downloading custom profile pictures as PNGs, and a Figma plugin lets designers build custom avatar styles that can be exported and used with the library.

The core library is MIT licensed. Individual avatar styles are attributed to various artists under licenses including CC0 1.0, CC BY 4.0, and MIT. The CDN is sponsored by bunny.net.
