About CTS

CTS API is a public transport data API for Strasbourg's transit network, implemented using the SIRI 2.0 standard alongside custom CTS-specific endpoints. It provides real-time information including estimated timetables for vehicle journeys, stop-centric departure monitoring, line and stop discovery, and general messages covering traffic disruptions and service changes.

Beyond real-time transit data, the API exposes endpoints for timetable files by line or stop, park-and-ride locations with available spot counts, retail outlet listings and their types, and veloparc (bicycle parking) locations. Access requires a token obtained through an open data account, supplied via the username field of the Basic HTTP Auth header.

The API is intended for developers building schedule information systems or applications that consume Strasbourg transit data. It includes mechanisms such as ValidUntil and ShortestPossibleCycle fields and cache-control headers to help clients determine appropriate request intervals, and it enforces rate limits, returning an HTTP error code for requests that do not respect them.

Key features

  • Real-time SIRI estimated timetables for all active and upcoming vehicle journeys
  • Stop monitoring for real-time vehicle departures at designated stops
  • General traffic and service disruption messages
  • Line and stop point discovery endpoints
  • Park and ride and veloparc (bike parking) availability lookup
  • Retail outlet listings and outlet type lookup

Frequently asked questions

How do I authenticate to the CTS API?

You use Basic HTTP Auth with your token placed in the username field; the token is obtained by connecting to your open data account.

Is there a rate limit?

Yes, the API asks that you avoid making an excessive number of requests, and abusive requests that ignore cache-control and validity guidance may receive an HTTP error code.

How do I know when to refresh data instead of re-requesting it?

The stop-monitoring and estimated-timetable responses include ValidUntil and ShortestPossibleCycle fields, and all APIs return a cache-control header indicating how long a response remains valid.

What kind of data can I access through this API?

It provides real-time transit data including vehicle timetables, stop monitoring, service messages, line and stop discovery, park and ride, veloparc, and retail outlet information for CTS Strasbourg.

What format does the API use?

It is documented as an OpenAPI (OAS 3.0) specification exposing SIRI 2.0 and CTS-specific GET endpoints.
