Online file converter for audio, video, document, ebook, archive, image, spreadsheet, presentation.
CloudConvert is a REST API (v2) for file processing, built around jobs composed of one or more tasks such as importing, converting, and exporting files. Supported task types include file conversion, optimization, watermarking, website capture, thumbnail creation, PDF operations, archive creation, metadata retrieval, and command execution. Import and export tasks handle bringing files into the system (e.g., from a URL or S3 bucket) and delivering output files back out, with imported files stored only temporarily.
The API supports multiple processing engines for certain task types (for example, office or libreoffice for DOCX conversion), with the ability to pin a specific engine version. Requests can be routed through an automatically selected region or through fixed EU (Germany) or US (Virginia) regional endpoints. A separate Sandbox API is available for development and integration testing, allowing unlimited jobs and tasks against a whitelisted set of files without consuming credits.
Authentication is via API keys (Bearer token) with selectable scopes for user, task/job, and webhook read/write permissions, or via OAuth 2.0 authorization code and implicit grant flows. Official SDKs are provided for PHP, Laravel, Node.js, Python, Ruby, Java, and .NET, along with a CLI, and integrations with Zapier, Microsoft Power Automate, Make, and n8n. The API is intended for developers building automated file conversion and processing workflows into their own applications.
