About WoRMS

WoRMS (World Register of Marine Species) provides a REST web service for accessing its taxonomic database of marine species. It is developed and hosted by the Flanders Marine Institute and powered by LifeWatch Belgium.

The service includes tools such as a taxon matching function ("Match Taxa") for aligning external species names against the register, along with access to scientific names, common names, taxon trees, and related taxonomic data. It is intended for developers and researchers who need programmatic access to marine species taxonomy data.
