About When is next MCU film

MCU-Countdown provides an API and web interface that returns countdown information for the next release in a movie or TV franchise, sourced from a TMDB (The Movie Database) list. The default list is the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the service also offers named routes for Star Wars, DC Universe, and Matt Reeves' Batman Universe countdowns.

The GET /api endpoint accepts an optional date parameter to find the next production after a given date, and an optional list_id parameter to query any TMDB list, allowing the API to function as a wrapper for arbitrary TMDB lists. Responses are JSON objects containing the production's id, days until release, overview, poster URL, release date, title, and type (movie or TV show), along with the same details for the following production in the list. Named routes render HTML pages and do not accept the list_id parameter.

Responses include cache headers (max-age 3600) and the API caches TMDB responses in-memory for one hour to reduce backend load. Usage is subject to TMDB's rate limits. This is aimed at developers who want to embed or query release-countdown data for franchise content, either for the built-in lists or custom TMDB lists.

Key features

  • JSON API returning the next production for MCU, Star Wars, DC, or Batman lists
  • Clean named routes (/star-wars, /dc, /batman) rendering HTML countdown pages
  • date query parameter to find the next production after a given date
  • list_id parameter to query any custom TMDB list
  • Response includes the following production after the next one
  • Hourly in-memory caching with Cache-Control headers to reduce lambda costs

Frequently asked questions

What does this API return?

It returns a JSON object with details on the next production from a TMDB list, including title, release date, days until release, and the following production.

Can I use it for lists other than the MCU?

Yes, the list_id query parameter lets you use the API as a wrapper for any TMDB list, such as Star Wars, DC, or Batman lists.

Is there rate limiting?

The API is subject to TMDB's rate limits, and responses are cached in-memory for 1 hour to reduce the number of requests to TMDB.

How are named routes different from the /api endpoint?

Named routes like /star-wars return HTML pages and always use a predefined list, while /api returns JSON and accepts the list_id parameter.
