UniRateAPI is a REST API providing real-time and historical currency exchange rates, covering 593 currencies (170+ FIAT and 420+ cryptocurrencies). It offers endpoints for current rates, currency conversion, historical rates dating back to 1999, and time-series data over date ranges up to 5 years. Data is sourced from central banks, market data providers, and financial institutions, with rates updated every 15 minutes and response formats available in JSON, XML, CSV, and JSONP.

The API also covers precious metals (gold, silver, platinum, palladium) with historical data since 1968, EU VAT rates for all EU countries, and reference lookups including ISO 4217 codes, currency symbols, and central bank policy rates. Official client libraries are available for Python, Node.js, PHP, Ruby, Java, Go, Rust, Swift, and .NET.

The free tier includes all 593 currencies, historical forex data, EU VAT rates, and 200 requests/day at 30 requests/minute, with no credit card required. The Pro tier costs $9/month and adds 25,000 requests/day, 1,000 historical requests/day, the precious metals API, time series data, and priority support. The product targets developers building applications that require currency conversion, exchange rate data, or precious metals pricing, from personal projects to production business use.
