About RoboHash

RoboHash is a free web service that generates unique images from arbitrary input text such as an IP address, email address, filename, or user ID. Each input is hashed into a deterministic image, so the same text always produces the same image, and it is commonly embedded via a direct image URL (e.g., an img tag pointing to robohash.org/YOUR-TEXT.png).

The service offers multiple image sets beyond its default robots, including monsters, robot heads, kittens, human technicians, and gorillas, selectable via a "set" parameter. Additional parameters allow customization of output format (PNG, JPG, bitmap), image size, background, and Gravatar-based hashing (using an email or its hashed form). Specific sets or combinations of sets can be pinned to keep results stable, while "set=any" includes future additions and may change existing hashes.

The images are licensed under CC-BY, requiring attribution when embedded. It is suited for developers needing placeholder or identicon-style avatars for users, IP addresses, or other identifiers on websites and applications. The individual image sets were created by Zikri Kader, Hrvoje Novakovic, Julian Peter Arias, David Revoy, Pablo Stanley, and OceanSlim.
