About Quotable Quotes

Quotable is a free, open source API that provides access to a database of quotations. It was originally built as part of a FreeCodeCamp project and is hosted at api.quotable.io, with a rate limit of 180 requests per minute per IP address.

The API offers endpoints to retrieve random quotes, list quotes with pagination, get a quote by ID, list authors, get an author by slug, list tags, and search quotes and authors (the search endpoints are in beta). Requests can be filtered by tags, minimum and maximum quote length, and author name or slug. Each quote response includes the quote text, author name, author slug, character length, and an array of tags.

The project is intended for developers building applications that need quotation data, such as quote-of-the-day widgets or quote generator apps. It is open source under the MIT license, with a contributors guide for those interested in contributing, and includes example implementations built with CodePen, CodeSandbox, and React Native.
