Metabase is an open source business intelligence and analytics platform. It connects to databases and data warehouses, letting users query and visualize data through a no-code query builder, a SQL editor, or natural-language questions answered by an AI assistant (Metabot). Data teams can curate a semantic layer of canonical tables and metrics in a component called Data Studio, so that both AI-generated and manual queries draw on consistent, vetted definitions. Results can be organized into interactive dashboards with filtering and drill-through, combined with text in documents, and distributed via subscriptions and alerts.

The product also provides an embedded analytics offering, letting companies build customer-facing dashboards and self-serve reporting into their own applications using a JavaScript/React SDK, with multi-tenant support, white-labeling, and configurable permissions. It can be self-hosted (with a Docker-based setup) or run on Metabase Cloud, and integrates with external tools via an MCP server, CLI, APIs, and Slack.
