About Jikan

Jikan is an unofficial, open-source REST API that provides structured access to data from MyAnimeList, the online anime and manga community and database. It works by scraping public MyAnimeList pages and parsing them into queryable endpoints covering anime, manga, characters, people, users, seasons, top rankings, producers, magazines, reviews, recommendations, advanced search, watch data, clubs, and genres. The API is free to use under the MIT license, supports non-authenticated requests only, and handles over 25 million requests weekly.

The service consists of two components: a REST API built on Lumen/Laravel that manages requests and maintains a queryable database, and a PHP API that performs the underlying scraping and parsing of MyAnimeList pages. Both are open source, and anyone can host a private instance of either component.

Jikan is intended for developers building applications or projects that need anime and manga data without maintaining their own MyAnimeList scraper. Because it only supports non-authenticated requests, it cannot be used for tasks like authenticating users, managing user lists, or posting on their behalf. The project maintains 26 community-built wrapper libraries across languages including JavaScript, Python, Java, Node.js, TypeScript, PHP, .NET, Go, Ruby, Dart, Kotlin, Rust, and C++, and its documentation is built on the OpenAPI 3.1 specification.
