About Instagram

The Instagram Platform, provided by Meta, offers a set of APIs and tools that let third-party applications interact with Instagram accounts and content. It includes the Instagram API with Instagram Login and the Instagram API with Facebook Login for Business, both of which allow apps to access data from Instagram Business and Creator accounts, publish and retrieve media, manage and reply to comments, and identify posts where the account has been @mentioned. The Facebook Login variant, which requires the Instagram account to be linked to a Facebook Page, adds hashtagged media search and basic metadata/metrics on other Instagram Businesses and Creators.

The platform also includes the Instagram Messaging API (via the Messenger API), which lets professional accounts send and receive Instagram and Facebook Page messages through a single app, and requires an Instagram Business or Creator account linked to a Facebook Page. Additional features include Sharing to Stories and Sharing to Feed, which let app users share content directly to their Instagram Stories or Feed, and Embedding, which allows Instagram photo and video posts to be embedded on external websites.

This platform is intended for developers building applications that need to read, publish, or manage content and messages on behalf of Instagram Business or Creator accounts, such as social media management tools, customer messaging apps, or content-sharing integrations.
