About Icelandic APIs

Icelandic APIs (apis.is) is an open-source, JSON-based API service that aggregates data scraped from various Icelandic websites and government sources, making it available to developers through a collection of endpoints. It is maintained by volunteer contributors and hosted in the cloud at no cost.

The service offers endpoints covering address lookup (via Iceland Post), real-time bus locations (bus.is), vehicle registry search (The Road Traffic Directorate), company registry search (Directorate of Internal Revenue in Iceland), concert listings (midi.is), currency exchange rates against the Icelandic krona (m5.is, Arion banki, Landsbankinn), bicycle counter data in Reykjavik, and earthquake monitoring data (Icelandic Meteorological Office), among others. Each endpoint returns data as JSON and includes accompanying jQuery.ajax usage examples.

The service is intended for developers who need access to Icelandic public and institutional data but lack the resources to collect it themselves. Documentation, source code, and contribution guidelines are provided via a public GitHub repository, and users are invited to suggest new endpoints.
