Live fire hydrant data: location, flow rate in GPM, and whether each hydrant is in or out of service. Sourced from the fire departments that maintain them.
FireDash provides a REST API for fire hydrant data, returning location, GPM flow rate, NFPA 291 flow class, and in/out-of-service status for hydrants near a given coordinate. Searches use a latitude/longitude point with a radius and return the nearest hydrants along with GPS data, status, agency, and distance in feet. The API also exposes flow and pressure data (NFPA 291 flow tests, residual pressures, rated capacity at 20 PSI), FireDash Residential account lookups by email (profile, saved hydrants, issue-report history), and per-application usage analytics. Access is via a single JSON REST interface authenticated with an fd-api-key header, with an OpenAPI 3 spec available. Data covers 200+ cities and more than 2 million geocoded hydrants.
The API is intended for fire, EMS, and dispatch tools needing the nearest working hydrant and its rated flow; insurance and property risk platforms using distance-to-hydrant for ISO PPC grading and premium pricing; water utilities reconciling hydrant condition and flow tests against their distribution systems; and real-estate, inspection, and municipal GIS platforms adding fire-protection data to property records.
Development API keys are free, with unlimited requests up to 60 per minute per key, responses throttled to 25 records, full OpenAPI spec access, and email support. Production use is metered at $0.0012 per KB of response data, billed monthly with no base fee, full payload sizes, and per-application usage breakdowns; a payment method is required to enable production keys. A separate Partner Program is closing to new applications on November 1, 2026, after which high-volume integrations move to metered Production billing under the same endpoints and limits. The data tier carries a published 99.95% uptime SLA.
Development keys are free and unlimited (up to 60 requests/min) but throttled to 25 records per response. Production is metered at $0.0012 per KB of response data with no base fee.
It's a single REST surface using JSON over HTTPS with an fd-api-key header, documented with an OpenAPI 3 spec that drops into Postman, Insomnia, or an SDK generator.
Fire, EMS and dispatch tools, insurance and property-risk underwriting, water utilities, and real-estate/GIS platforms that need hydrant location, flow, and status data.
The Partner Program ends November 1, 2026 and is closed to new applications; high-volume integrations now run on Production, billed per KB with the same endpoints and limits.
No card is needed to sign up and use a Development key; one is required only when you flip an application to Production.
