About Covid Tracking Project

The COVID Tracking Project provided a data API delivering COVID-19 statistics for the United States, covering cases, deaths, hospitalizations, testing, and ICU/ventilator usage at both national and state/territory levels. Data was returned as JSON with accompanying metadata, field definitions, and titles, and included calculated fields such as percentage of population and percent increase over seven days. As of March 7, 2021, the project stopped collecting new data.

The API (version 2) offered endpoints for historic and single-day national data, state metadata, and historic or single-day state-level data, each with a corresponding simplified endpoint to reduce file size. Version 2 also introduced a field-name mapping from version 1 for developers migrating existing integrations.

The data was licensed under CC BY 4.0 and published by CovidTracking.com, part of the Atlantic Monthly Group, making it suited for developers and researchers building applications or analyses using historical US COVID-19 data.
