About City Bikes

CityBikes API provides real-time data on public bicycle sharing systems worldwide, aggregating information from multiple city bike networks such as Velib (Paris), Divvy (Chicago), Valenbisi, and EcoBici. It exposes endpoints for listing all networks with their location and company details, and for querying individual networks to retrieve station-level data including geographic coordinates, available bikes, and empty docking slots.

The API is built on top of the PyBikes project and returns data in JSON format, with support for field filtering via a query parameter to limit response size. It is intended for developers building applications or websites that display bike-share availability or station information.

Use of the API requires attribution: projects consuming CityBikes data must include a visible statement crediting the source and linking to the CityBikes project page, with an additional mention required if PyBikes is also used directly.

Key features

  • Returns real-time station data including free bikes and empty slots per station
