About Chess.com

The Chess.com Published-Data API (PubAPI) is a read-only REST API that returns JSON-LD data re-packaged from public information on Chess.com. It exposes data that is visible to logged-out users, including player profiles, ratings and stats, online status, game and archive data (daily and live games, PGN downloads), club and tournament information, team matches, country data, streamers, leaderboards, and daily puzzles. It excludes private information such as game chat or conditional moves, and it does not accept game moves or other write commands.

Endpoints can be queried with any HTTP client, including a browser, curl, or Postman/Insomnia (a downloadable Postman collection is provided). Responses support standard caching via ETag/Last-Modified headers, JSONP callback wrapping, compression, and HTTP/2. Endpoint data refreshes at most once every 12 hours, and English-language text in responses is not localized.

The API is intended for developers building tools or applications on top of Chess.com data. Serial (non-parallel) request rates are unlimited, but parallel or high-volume requests may receive 429 responses or be blocked if flagged as abnormal activity; supplying a user-agent with contact information allows Chess.com to reach out before blocking an application. Use of Chess.com's visual assets (board/piece designs, sound effects, move-classification glyphs) in products built on the API is subject to IP restrictions.
