About Brave Search API
Brave Search API provides programmatic access to Brave's independent web search index for building chatbots, coding assistants, AI-search engines, and other search-enabled applications. It returns web results, news, images, video, and AI-optimized context, drawing on an index of over 30 billion pages updated with more than 100 million page updates daily. The API includes endpoints for web search, summarized answers, local/place search, and additional features such as Search Goggles for custom result reranking and filtering, extra snippets, and schema-enriched result data.
The service offers a Search plan priced at $5 per 1,000 requests supporting up to 50 queries per second, and an Answers plan at $4 per 1,000 requests plus $5 per million input/output tokens supporting up to 2 queries per second, with answer grounding, citations, and streaming responses compatible with the OpenAI SDK. Both plans include $5 in free monthly credits. An Enterprise plan is available for custom terms, capacity, zero data retention, and dedicated support agreements.
The API is accessed via HTTP requests authenticated with a subscription token, with example integrations shown for Python, cURL, JavaScript, and Go. It is used in retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, for training AI foundation models on web data, and for building tools such as CRM company profile lookups, citation gathering for educational applications, and news feeds for trading assistants.
