About Bitfinex

Bitfinex provides an API for its cryptocurrency exchange platform, offered in two versions (V1 and V2, with V2 recommended for new development). The API exposes market data and account-specific data such as balances and order history, and supports placing trading and funding orders. It is designed to allow users to rebuild most of the Bitfinex platform's functionality on top of it for custom trading applications.

The API can be accessed via REST or WebSocket, or a combination of both; some historic data is only available through REST. WebSocket connections are rate-limited to 5 authenticated connections per 15 seconds (wss://api.bitfinex.com/) and 20 public connections per minute (wss://api-pub.bitfinex.com/), with each connection supporting up to 25 channels. REST usage is subject to rate limits. Official client libraries are provided for Python, NodeJS, Ruby, and Golang.

The API supports spot trading pairs (prefixed with "t") and margin currencies (prefixed with "f"), as well as derivatives trading through dedicated symbols. It uses EPOCH/UNIX UTC millisecond timestamps, defines specific price and amount precision rules, and is intended for developers building custom trading strategies or platforms on top of Bitfinex's exchange infrastructure.
